Eject!

Erzak·

As the overview in the cockpit of my Myrmidon began scanning nearby ships and reporting their classes, I noticed something strange. There was a Caldari Navy Hookbill on my scanner. This is unusual because I was in Uitra, a noob system in Caldari space. I requested a pilot background from CONCORD to find that he was in an NPC corporation and was a little over a year old. That's when an idea popped in to my head. I was going to try and get the pilot to give me his Hookbill. A closer look at the background revealed that this pilot had been in the NPC corporation since his date of birth, making it tough to judge how long he had actually been active in the game. I decided to throw caution to the wind and try it anyway.

I opened up a conversation with the pilot and asked if he would like some faction ammunition. I offered some medium-sized Caldari Navy Antimatter, the top-of-the-line ammunition used by the Naval forces of the Caldari. He accepted and we warped to a planet to do the exchange. To my dismay, I noticed that he was in a Ferox.

I could fly the Ferox, but I decided that I would continue and attempt to acquire the Hookbill, since I needed a good frigate. He took the ammo and I refrained from shooting, taking the chance that he wouldn't run. I told him to dock at the station and grab his Hookbill as I had a ship to trade him. He warped to the planet and I followed in a Catalyst destroyer. Once out of warp, he asked me what was happening.

By this time, the aggression countdown had worn off. I jettisoned 500 units of Caldari Navy Antimatter, size small. He took my container, just as I hoped. Action time.

I quickly locked on to his frigate and began my orbit. As I did this, I signaled for my friend in a remote repair ship to warp in, in case he tried to fight back. Engage blasters, stasis webifier, and warp scrambler. I tell him that he can either die or eject from his ship. He doesn't respond, so I keep shooting.

Soon his shield melts, and his armor blows off in chunks. As his armor hit 25%, I asked again. "Eject or die." Still no response. 1 more volley begins eating in to his hull. I see his pod appear in space and he insults me in the conversation.

I hurriedly ejected from my Catalyst to attempt to take the Hookbill. With seconds left on the session timer, my friend gets in first, as apparently he ejected before the other pilot did. I hop back in my Catalyst and we bring our ships back to the station. My friend trades my the Hookbill and I take a look at the fitting.

What I saw was horrific. 3 launchers, 2 with different types of light missiles and one with defenders. A target painter, civilian shield booster, and 3 rigs, one for armor, one for shield, and one for launchers. The fit was cheap, thrown together, and extremely bad. I began flying my prize to Jita for a new fit.

I comment about the fit to the pilot and we begin talking about fittings for the Hookbill. I put together a new fitting for him, a good one this time, and send it to him. He travels to Jita and buys a new Hookbill with new fittings, and thanks me for the experience.

All in all, it was a very good 20 minutes. I obtained a faction ship instead of a killmail and made friends with a new, albeit old player. My friends were jealous, but we also had a noob with us who got a taste of the evil side of EVE.

Nice to hear that that hookbill got new home and fit it deserved. :)

I also have (bad) habit to give lessons to fresh pilots i separate from their ships. Usually end up having long convos and get nice mail afterwards.

Just waiting and expecting them to be inside something bit more valuable next time we meet. ;)
