Pirating 101, Lesson 2: "Teamwork"

Keelee Cila'run·

The buddy system. You learn enough about it to last you forever in grammar school and swimming lessons. Or you can figure out pretty easily that having two people is safer then one. It's your choice if you use it or not, and it's not a hard one if you ask me.

A fellow fledgling by the name of Sria was asking the same questions I would, in the same places. I figured it was time to either attempt to gang together or scream 'STFU N00B WTF' and hunt him down. I chose the first option, and he happily accepted.

After making ready our ships (myself in a Rifter, him in a Kestrel) we started our rounds. And by rounds, I mean a long, arduous path throughout Sinq Laison. It seemed everywhere we would go it was either a team of cruisers and battleships, or just battleships. We split up as we scoured asteroid field after asteroid field.

It was more then likely two hours (and no mark) into the excursion that I realized I had been ammo-less the entire time. Having dealt with that, it was on to Aliette. After 20+ jumps, we finally found a piece of action. Unfortunately, it was action caused by desperation.

It was a group like any other we had seen the rest of the day. A cruiser, a battleship (I believe?) and a Crow class interceptor. Sria had warped in ahead of me, at my suggestion. I tried to figure out the damned scanner, and I finally managed to use it to track someone down, it had seemed! Three of them had to be in the same place for me to find them, but never mind that. As if on cue, the battleship and cruiser jumped out, and I jumped on in. Me and Sria decided that if we figured we had a chance, we'd try it. So after pumping myself up (Personally, I like to read stories about ninjas defeating pirates. Your methods may vary, of course. I find reading about the demise of your kind totally make you want to go kick some frickin' butt.) I spearheaded the attack.

Forgetting Sria's lack of skill, I hit my MWD forgetting he would have none and began to gain on the Crow. Too fast, too soon. I hit my jammer and then weapons in short time, and began to fire. The rate his shields deteriorated left me disappointed. My shields dropped much faster as he attacked with nasty missiles, and I panicked. Realizing Sria was too far behind, I warped out and Sria followed.

Some would call this pitiful, or cowardly, but I call it knowing when I'm in over my head. We regrouped at a planet, and I waited for my timer to dissipate. Sria hadn't even got a chance to attack.

(Right about here, EVE crashes, and it takes me a good three minutes to return.)

The pilot of the Crow hailed me, and I accepted like any curious little 'rat would. He began by saying he had no problem with me, and he wouldn't say anything if I answered, but asked if I had been hired by Jacob Sand. I told him I couldn't say (Mainly because it took me twenty minutes to figure out who he was speaking about. Quite a strong... accent. Yeah, that's it.), and sighed.

It seemed already I was living in the shadow of another pirate; one who I had heard of many times, though perhaps not as much as some more infamous pirates. Can't have people thinking I'm working for anyone other then Numero Uno. That's part of what piracy is all about: Making a name for yourself in a galaxy of thousands.

A word of advice, however. While there is strength in numbers, the buddy system often leads to underestimation of adversaries and acts of extreme carelessness. And it really doesn't work for squat if you kinda sorta forget how slow the Kestrel you're with is. Also, grouping with Sria may lead to some interesting times, as we have had since this excursion. You haven't lived until you've seen a Kestrel pilot taunting a Raven.

Sria > Are ye sure you want to bring such a mighty wrath as Sria the pirate upon yeself?
Sria > If you pay me 10million isk now ill let you go
Raven Pilot > come out of hiding you pirate scum
Sria > Listen ye anti pirte i told ye where i was
Sria > oh i didnt warp all the way there ye see
Sria > ill rewarp
Sria > Ok here i come ye best be ready to die a horrible and painful death
Sria > Chargeee
Sria > Yaharr i be takin heavy fire
Raven Pilot > lol
Sria > Arr i be being podded

Well imho you should have sent the guy with the Kestrel in first and waited until he was almost in range before warping in yourself.

The ceptor pilot wouldn’t have bothered running from a 1v1 against a sole Kessie so he could have scrambled the sod while you jump in and finish him off.

Although to be honest, after 2 hours of flying around without a sniff of action I’d have probably lost of sense of tactical analysis and CHARGED strait in there myself :)

Yeah, quite right. I was the one running though, gnehehe. ;-) If I was _REALLY_ smart I would have sent him in first and came in after in my Ferox with assault missiles.

As for joining you... meeebbbeee.
