Sometimes you encounter things you never really expected. This time I came across an odd bunch of people flying fast throw-awayships such as frigs, covertops and shuttles.
Why shuttles I thought when I saw them jumping through to the system I was in.
They were much too fast for me to catch them and I didnt put much effort into chasing after them. They were wellprepared and knew this region well.
I didnt investigate further and proceeded on my journey.
A couple of days later I find myself in a 0.0 system once more, one of the "gate-systems" which intersect many highways in 0.0. The same people with their odd setup, frigs and shuttles. I didnt see the covertops this time but I knew he was around.
What made me curios was the fact they were flying with several shuttles again as I doubted they had been stuck in this region. I opened up a conversation and decided to investigate.
Due to concerns from them I'm not going to give any names or corporation. This is mearely my observations and the information I've gotten from them in the conversation.
First I asked what they were up to, he was a bit reluctant but then agreed to tell me when I pointed out the odd number of shuttles. Appearently they take this same amount of people into 0.0, often to the highwaysystems where a lot of battles have occured in the past.
They call themselves "scavangers of eve" . The frigs are there to carry loot and scanprobes, the shuttles are there incase they find abandoned ships which they board.
Appearently a lot of people leave their ships in space. Everything from cruisers to battleships and haulers with nice modules fitted.
One of the better finds they got was a vagabond which was sitting off the plane in a system.
I dont know how exactly they scanned for the vagabond, but it includes observation probes which scan in 3d and then narrowing it down with the lesser AU-range probes.
What makes this bunch of people extra interesting are that they are roleplayers, strictly in-character. They stay out of the path of others and do this for fun, not for the isk even if they do make quite a bit by boarding expensive ships.
Anyone thinking of FireFly/Serenity? I do. I suppose in this case I was one of the reavers when I first started chasing after them.

Scavenging 0.0 is a seriously under rated profession :)

Heh, sounds like fun. Might have to try and see if I can get ahold of them.
