Introduction of Jocindus

Jocindus·

I've decided to take the plunge. After 7 months of being a good little Eve citizen I've packed up my gear, sold off my empire assets and moved to low sec. It's time to become a pirate.

I started playing this game back in May after becoming bored of EQ2. I had read the "Great Scam" story and was intrigued by the openness of Eve, so I downloaded the demo and started a new character. Within 2 hours I was hooked and I've stayed hooked ever since.

I've tried most of the carebear professions Eve has to offer and none of them could really capture my interest. I came to realize that the only long-term hook for me in this game would be in PvP, piracy specifically. Piracy has always called to me as a way to live outside the law and prey on the fringes of empire but until now, I haven't committed myself to the dark side.

Now, I've got some ISK, I've got some SPs and I've got a ship with some guns ready to fire. I expect that over the next few months I'll learn some harsh lessons but I hope to teach a few as well. I'll be sharing my experiences of starting a new profession as a low-sec pirate and I welcome any hints from those who have gone before me.

See you in space-

-Jocindus.

Welcome. The only lesson I would convey to you; don't be afraid to die. It will happen, and it will hurt, but get up and carry on.

I disagree, be afraid of losing your ship! As a pirate, ISK will be pretty sparse so keep your wits about you and don't do anything stupid. Learn the basics in a T1 frig because especially at first, you'll be replacing your gear very often.

I second that I have picked up piracy for the same reasons he did.
I have lost multiple rifters now and Frigs are cheap and relatively quick to replace and in a pack they can do some nice damage.

He means Don't fly it unless you expect to lose it kind of thing. It will happen, eventually. Although it took a month for my first pirating thorax to pop :)

My first ship loss was my megathron. I got that thing when I was a carebear after months of mining ores in lowsec. I've been a resident of lowsec for a long time and used to live in Vitruaze. It was almost always empty and rarely saw any pirates. This was back before Shiva was released, so no POSes or other goodies.

It was kinda sad to lose the ship I worked for ages to get, but I got a new one and fitted it out. Since then I've only lost two ships, a thorax and a atron. The atron I didnt care about and it was a laugh. The thorax was annoying as it was after I had ganked someone at the gate just after RMR deployment and was in warp to my SS. I was sitting there repairing armor and suddenly the ship exploded. No one found me there but I lost the ship along with some good mods.

Thankfully CCP gave me back the ship and destroyed mods today. I had a screenshot of my rax in warp with some armor and struct left and obviously something happened on the cluster. I had made a comment to my corp mates at the time about how close it was. I guess the GMs agree I made it out alive.
