Interceptor - Taranis tackler

Ander·
Ship-type: Taranis Role: Tackler Last revision: Red Moon Rising Skill-requirments: Interceptor pilot High-slots: 3x 125mm railgun II's Med-slots: microwarpdrive (named or t2), 20km scrambler, webifier Low-slots: micro auxilary capacitor, 2x capacitor power relays Cost: 15mill isk including ship and modules Comment: Keep the target scrambled at range and orbit him with your microwarpdrive on, dont go within 10km to avoid getting webbed and insta-popped by eventual smartbombs. The purpose of 2x cap relays is to keep your capacitor going to be able to scramble & mwd. You might want to drop the webifier for a cap recharger (tech I to keep cost down if you die). This is an all or nothing tackling-ship. Your job is to keep the target scrambled while the rest comes for backup. If you have to warp-out, then do so.

The shiplayout is "all or nothing". It's prefered a friend has a remote-armor repairer in the gang so that he can repair you.

Your job is to keep the target from being unable to warp out.
That means you have to run the mwd (to avoid getting shot) and being able to run the scrambler.

Avoid autocannon ships as they take down frigs easily.

I dont like this setup, for a start the Taranis is a blaster ship. For one on one fights its great for high damage at fast speeds tech 2 blasters with named antimatter ammo really cripple other ships. You can take out cruisers single handed in a blaster setup.
If you are going for a tackler setup then why have you fitted a 20km scram that only does 1 point? at 20km orbital speed even the weakest of gunnery skills will make you a viable target with a MWD running so you should at least drop the MWD for an AB. At 20km range the webifier is useless because its optimal is 10km so you cant even activate it. Drop out the web for a tracking disruptor or a recharger, switch one of the low slots for a damage mod.
This isnt a flame post, just pointing out a few errors as I see them. This setup is not a dedicated tackler setup nor a damage dealer. The taranis is a difficult ship to fly well but it is satisfying when you get those cruiser kills :)

The point with this setup is to scramble battleships. The only real battleship who will hurt you is a tempest with autocannons.

If you go with blasters you cant help deal damage without risking to get webbed/scrambled within 20km. Running two scramblers for 20km is not an option really as it would take far too much cap.

The point with the webber on medium is to catch ships MWD:ing towards stargates in 0.0 or trying to get away in general.

Point is, get many of these tacklers and you wont have need for 7,5km scramblers and lose out your ships one by one to webbing ships.

Even with an afterburner II you will easily get hit more often, so MWD is my choice in this case.

Need i remind you that most budding pirates will not be able to fly Taranis' if they have just started. this setup is a tried and tested method and i know it works. Excellent submission. I'd like to see more tackler setups :-) Frigs 4tw

Just found this post, had to comment...
I fly a Taranis myself, my preferred setup is:

*HIgh*: 3 t2 125er Rails
*Med*: Web, Scram 7,5km, MWD
*Low*: 200mm Plate, Mag Stab t2, Micro Aux Powercore

Managed to take out quite some Inties, especially crows on a 1vs1 or in a fleet. The 200mm Plate gives some durability, even if you get too close to a smartbomb. If webbed, MWD away... ;)
Oh, and add named stuff where appropriate. ;)
