The Story Behind My Signature...

Verone·

Many people have asked me about the story behind my much loved Eve-Online forum signature featuring the crying child and the story of his "daddy's hauler". I thought it would make a nice first OOC storytelling post, as well as maybe giving some of you guys a chuckle.

The setting is Oulletta, it's 04:00GMT and I'm half asleep from a 12 hour straight piracy binge that has snagged me a ton of sucessful ransoms and a fair batch of ship and podkills.

I jump into Oulletta and pull up a 360 degree scan to guage my surroundings from the planet with the most belts in the system. Hurrah a covetor! The carebear's choice chariot for mining before the RMR patch brought elite barges.

I track the guy to a specific belt, and warp in. I can't believe my luck, most people at this point in time would dock or log if they saw me in local, but no, he still sits there apparently blissfully unaware of my presence.

30km... 20... my Crusader is practically rattling apart as it tears across the belt at 4km/sec. 15... 10km... 7,500m he's scrambled for -2. Local chat lights up on his part with "Hi :)".

I reply with "20 mil or your ship, good sir."

"Hi :)"

Okay, so now i'm confused. I activate all 4 weapons while holding him in place and tear through his armor into his hull.

"20 mil, or your ship, 30 seconds."

"Hi :)"

Almost two minutes passed. I was pretty patient with him, usually I stick to the deadlines, but for some reason this time I slacked off. No response. No money. The covetor sat crippled in the belt, unable to warp, the side of it's hull spewing deep orange flames and smoking heavily.

"fair enough, we'll play this your way..."

I opened up on the target with everything I had, Multifrequency crystals ripping through hull plating until the guy vanished in a huge blue aurora of light. His capsule warped instantly to the station. Now to check the spoils.

I couldn't believe my luck yet again. Three T2 strip miners, which at the time were selling for a small fortune, and three mining crystals, as well as a cap recharger II. The rest had been destroyed in the blast.

After a fw minutes, I scooped up the loot with a grin on my face, and was about to leave, when something wonderful happened. Something I never expected. The overview lit up with an incoming vessel. On closer insepection it was an Iteron Mk V, I watched my screen in disbeleif as he made for his ore can, slowboating 15km and bursting the thing open as he reached it and filled his hold.

Once again he was unable to warp. -2 instantly disengaged his warp drive and he lay motionless in the belt.

"Hi :)"

Something's wrong here, I thought. Something is terribly wrong.

"5 mil or your you know what happens. Another 30 secs."

A minute passed. Screw it. Lasers melted hull and the Iteron was overcome by a massive explosion, a surge of blue light that threw debris across the belt. Lovely. The pod didn't warp, -2 played it's part again, and I spoke once more for a price.

"okay, I'm confused, look, 20 mil for the pod or I'll send you to your cloning contractor."

No response. To hell with it. The pod tore open with a beautiful sound, and the sight of Amibiotic fluid spilling into space gave me a warm feeling inside. A job well done.

I inspected the loot in the Iteron's can... and shook my head in disbeleif as I scooped 4 27.44% Local Hull Conversions that had survived the blast, the other had been destroyed.

"Pay day Verone, you lucky bastard" I thought to myself.

I made a hasty exit, sitting in the orbit of a nearby planet while my criminal flag wore off, and soon I was almost 300mil richer.

Almost 30 minutes had passed, and we'd had a good chuckle about it in corp chat, Sniggerdly corp chat at the time. A convo from a farmiliar face. The crazed miner pilot, however this time he was a lot more vocal.

If I still had the chatlog, I would post it, it brought me to tears laughing.

In short, the guy in question was the father of the player I'd killed eariler. The father of a seven year old son who had been left to mine in his father's multi million ISK mining barge, using his father's character, in low security space to get a feel for the game.

I remember almost physically choking on my cup of Tea as he ranted in the convo about how I was a griefing bastard, and how I destroyed the game for people like him, and his son.

He told me how he'd mined and refined for five months to afford a Covetor and all the equiptment for his Iteron, plus the full rack of +3 implants he had lost as my laser fire breached the hull of his pod.

He screamed at me, wishing horrible death on my family and friends, hoping I would catch a whole encyclopedia of sexually transmitted diseases, I laughed, and replied with a simple response.

"Low security space is called so for a reason. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen."

Shortly after that, I received a hefty dontation to my bounty pool.

Hurrah!

Oh thats brilliant, utter brilliant. I can sort of picture the comversation now, in my head.

Assur·

I almost fell out of my chair laughing reading this.
I cannot understand why you would let a 7 year old mine in low sec space rather than empire.

Godlesswanderer·

Hahaha! Why would anyone let a 7 year old mine in a barge in low sec? I wouldn't even let a 7 year old mine in a barge... well... anywhere. He was just asking for trouble doing that.
