My thoughts on lower security status gain from NPC's...

Background: In the upcoming patch, EVE will nerf the 0.4% skillgain from 750k bounty NPC's to 0.04%. Piracy in low sec space is something I find entirely good and honest to eve. I've been pirated myself, and I do it to others aswell. That's what separates EVE from other MMORPG's where the worker factions go rampage and mine for hours to get rich. Or you'll have to be like MMORPG playing Koreans to get rich, 24/7 camp of the good spawns. Piracy IS a good money sink in this game. Tons of expensive modules get destroyed if it's a kill, iskies change ownership in ransoms etc. I believe that if CCP should do something, is to make it more rewarding to ransom someone than to simply shoot to kill. Other games has different mechanisms and money sinks. Guild Wars online and warcraft has the customizable armours and weapons. Meaning they cant resell armour but has to buy (very expensively from NPC's) or hunt for new armour pieces. Ultima didn't solve this problem, they actually made it worse with indestructable armour and "insurance" for the armour which was relatively cheap even if you died. The armour and even other items which are insured stays with the person and is non lootable. This has made UO to a l33wt item hoarding game with loads of powergaming. (Even worse than the usual skillgain powergaming in most MMORPG's which we dont have in EVE) By making it harder to pirate within the bounds of law (slow sec gain), we'll see more of these extortion corps going killingspree on mining corporations. It will be far worse than an eventual industrial gank in low security. Remember, you always have the choice to bring some protection with you into low sec. Often it's more than enough to go safely through any low sec space as shooting a protected indy (maybe with just one frig even) by the sentry guns is very dangerous. However, against gank-squads of extortionist corps there is no good protection. If you want to look at things to improve, then it's mining in low sec. (I know some stuff like that is coming in the latest patch) Make it profitable to mine in low sec, even if you lose or risk lose your ships to us pirates. However, if majority of pirate corps out here in low sec turns to extortioning and warring if it's no longer possible to regain security rating in a normal fashion. I can honestly say... that it wont be pretty. As it is now, my conclusion to this patch. In real life 1700century, pirates could get away from the authorities. Heck they could even just jump onto a new boat to serve on. They werent tracked for every pirating action, heck they were hardly ever spotted! In eve however, every attack, every kill is security rate tracked. Piracy will be killed. The only people which will be able to afford piracy are the fleets of -10 security guys who will be able to mindlessly kill now. Just the opposite of what CCP wanted.

Maybe you want to post a follow up to this post. Doesn't seem that pirating has died out yet.

nope we just make alts now which is even more retarded and serves even less of a purpose seeing as then when we leave our safe home you cant use your kill rights in empire against us
