Ambushed

Hell, its been a while since I last posted anything on Eve-Pirate, due to me not being able to get on as much as I used too, which may infact be the cause of my act of stupidity and destruction.

The rust had settled into my implants and blinded me to the dangers of 0.0 space. Throw in the limited time factor when your trying to lower your sec rating by NPCing and its a coctail for death.

I finally get some time to get on Eve so I head out to NPC in good old 2X-PQG. Usually, if anyone shows up, I wait until they are gone, or constanly scan for ships approaching, check the corporation details to see what type of work they do or if they have any grudges against my current corp. Paranoia is a lifesaver.

Since iam pressed for time, and out of practice, I ignore alot of this except the scanning. I started getting into friendly random convos with locals, mainly to show iam not being any trouble toward them, why have people chasing you around, outnumbered and cutting off your main NPC hunting grounds.

One this occasion, ive made ally with a character named Schmug. Hes an older player, 2003, like myself and has a negative sec rating. I stay clear, especially when I discover he flys a Zealot, as my Enyo is no match for such a ship.

Over a few days, it became clear he was doing the same thing, NPCing. We chatted in local and decided to NPC together as its safter in groups. After flying around by myself for a while, I find a lone Megathron at the planet, scanning the roid fields. I casually ignore him, iam at a safe distance of 75Km and he doesnt bother to try to engage me, all is good.

Some time passes and eventually Schmug logs in. He undocks and we gang together. The Megathron warps in as we are killing the NPC, and opens up on Schmug's Zealot. This is where the confusion starts...

Schmug is getting damaged fast, but hes tanking well, but he isnt opening up, hes arguing in local, asking what the guy is doing. Something about they talked in local or know the same person or something and are supposedly cool toqward eachother. We are getting nowhere fast so Iam orbitting the MegaT, webbing and opening up with T2 Ions. Eventually Schmug opens up and damage is being done to the mega, we get it into structure before it warps off.

The MegaT convos me and asks me what iam doing, he apparently see's me as Blue on overview! I explain that he is not Blue to me and what choice did I have attacking him as he opened up on my gang mate.

Eventually all is settled, apart from the flaming going on between the Mega pilot and Schmug. Hes offering 1V1's and cursing but the Mega pilot wont bite, especially when another local turns up who is friendly with Schmug.

All goes quiet, and local dies down. Schmug thanks me for my help and leaves. I start NPC'ing again later with a corp mate, Hippo117. We gang up and start the lowering sec process. Schmug turns up, Hippo flys off but returns when I inform him that Schmug is friendly, as we now have corp standings set to Blue...

This is where things get ugly, Schmug leaves, then returns with his friend, ReaperDoom who is flying a MegaT. He open fire on Hippo, who being in an Interceptor, escapes, iam wondering whats going on, why is a friend of Schmug attacking us...but before I can find out or escape...

Both of them turn there attentions to me. Before I know whats going on, iam Webbed, Nossed and Scrammed. A Zealot and MegaT, Vs an Enyo, Yep, Iam screwed. And I know it.

I align toward a safe spot and make sure my pod gets out upon destruction of my ship. In local, Reaper is gloating about how they own this system and has a personal vendetta against my corp WOR. Schmug offers to give me ISK for my ship, but, I decline, as I have a replacement already waiting and feel slighty as though I dont deserve it anyway for letting my guard down.

If I had bothered to check Reapers corp info, I would have noticed that it was at negative standings with WOR, If I had of understood then like I do now why the MegaT pilot wouldnt except a 1V1, it was because he had faced them before and knew of the deceit. If I had hadnt been worrying about lack of time then I wouldnt have been making mistakes.

Schmug, being a reputable pilot, offered me ISK, as I helped him against the Mega, I also understand why he would help his friend destroy an enemy that he has befriended, in all fairness it was a fine piece of con-artistry pirating. I learned my lesson from becoming sloppy and had a crude awakening of welcome back to Eve.

Never again will I make such a mistake of trusting people, especially in the lawless space of 0.0. As the saying goes...
