Hey all, I don't actually play EVE (yet), but I've been reading this blog and about EVE in general for a while. The game seems very exciting to me, but my computer is 6 years old and sucks :( I'm buying a new comp within the coming few days, and i'm wondering what computer specs do you guys run eve on and what do you recommend in order to have a great eve experience?

You don't need an amazing Pc for EVE - $500 will buy you a PC capable of running it at full specs thesedays
They are revamping the engine, so you will need a newer computer, but at the momment EVE has been out with the same engine for at least three years. You dont need anything special. I for one have a 9600xt, 1 gig o ram, and an athlon 2700+ (2.1 ghz)
yes they are upgrading the engine, however you can choose to use the old engine they have stated.
i thought they were making two new engines, the new one, and then one specially desgned for vista
you dont really need all that much, my friend runs it on an old 800mhz and just shoved a 256mb radeon card in it. obviously its a tiny bit jumpy but if you get like any new brand-name system (dell/ibm/gateway)with at least 512 ram and put a 256mb video card in it, it should be fine.
you can get a decent video card by ati or nvidia for under a hundred bucks or even cheaper.
at the moment, i'm looking at something like a 2.8GHz dual core w/ 1 gig RAM, 256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE...i think that should handle it alright.
I'm really looking forward to getting into this game..I've played a few other online RPGs and my greatest fun has always come from legitimate player killing. I'll probably start within a week or so, and as I understand it, finding a helpful corp is a great way to understand the game. If you guys have any advice, I am sure I could make good use of some. Thanks!
That system should run it fine.
General advice is that if you ransom, don't stick around too long and use cheap disposable ships when possible. Anything too expensive and you'll be stuck.
Also, do the tutorial until you get an implant. When you get the implant sell it and you'll have a nice-ish starter fund to get you going
One IMPORTANT thing is with eve and dual core processors is this. IT DOESNT WORK! It crashes to desktop constantly. You must force Eve to use one one. If this information is wrong, someone say so, i have a regular one. I read this on forums a while back
Sounds like the DX9 engine optimizations will fix this problem, hopefully, seeing as how I'm slowly getting cash to grab 2800 dollars worth of parts, with the processor being a dual core. =P
errr...anybody else have info on the dual core thing? If i get this comp, the only game i'll be playing is probably EVE, so i need to know ><
I have an AMD 4800 duel core and run on both cores fine (it has never crashed to decktop) its sometimes doesnt load new areas (like when i go in/out of stations or jump) but i know people with the same problems on single core systems and with totally different hardware so its just poor coding on CCP's part.
