Taranis is better than a Tempest, can it be so?

In this case my Taranis outsmarted a tempest. This day I was just warping about trying to find something fun to do when I spotted a tempest on scans. One of those Red alliance guys, mostly russians who talk very cryptic in local all the time and ask you to do weird things.

Like today. I find his belt and warp in with my taranis and decide to mess a little with him. Just giving him a little scare. I was doubtful that I'd be able to do anything at all.

He was currently fighting two npc battleships and I'm sure he'd been able to take them out.
The first thing he does when he notices I'm scrambling him is to send his heavy drones at me. Maintaining a balance between my microwarpdrive and webscrambler I keep away from the drones. Just toying with him.
I was certain he'd soon start shooting at me with other guns, or at least putting a nos or two at me.

Nothing.
After a while of being chased by the drones I notice that he's starting to take heavy damage by the NPC battleships. He's getting a good beating for a long time before turning his drones back to the NPC's. I'm still maintaining the warpscramble on him with my taranis.

It was too late, his drones wouldn't be able to take down all npc's in time.
One npc battleship goes down and I decide to aid the other NPC by firing at him.

No longer chased by his drones I can use my 125mm railguns II's without having to boost my speed with a microwarpdrive.
His shields are long gone and he's nearing hull. Looking worriedly at my cap I turn off the railguns again as I see him going into structure. Two seconds, five seconds, ten seconds later he's almost dead and I smile to myself as I enjoy yet another victory.

A weird victory, aided by NPC's versus a battleship. But hey, still a victory.

Nice kill, but isn't it annoying when they just keep NPCing :( It almost takes half the fun away. And there's always the annoying possibility that the rats will get the final blow - which just plain sucks.

*Makes note to get into an inty soon*

He was trying to kill me with his drones and fairly oversized missiles :) no use I might add. Too late he noticed his biggest threat was the NPC's and turned to them.

Awesome job Ander. I love hearing when the underdog takes the win through intelligent thinking and acting.

I've had similar expierience. I was in my Punisher looking for some trouble and finally came accros a Prophecy - rating. What i didn't know, was that they got him webbed.I was thinking what the heck may as well try, so i have scrambled him and started shooting at him.
In his case he kept his fire on the npcs, while in my opinion he should have killed me first; at least this would give him option to warp out, he didn't and got killed, i was nearly gone soon after when they webbed me, but i didnt want to warp without his loot so just beeing 30% in my hull i got to his can (very slowly ) and than warped.
Sometimes deciding who is your biggest threat is not easy, you pick the wrong target and off you go.

Can you post that setup, I've been pondering about fitting 125mm to the Taranis, but with MWD it seems a bit too PG intensive.

i would like to see kill mails with all these wonderful kills.

Same here, stories are fun to listen to but een more fun if there is evidence that they are true. A well set up tempest can tank an npc rat indefinitely, let alone an interceptor.
