So after taking a small vacation from Eve, I returned saturday night with the idea to do some pirating. Low and behold, after an hour in game, and two old buddies of mine, Cordt and Morbo Rigatoni, show up in the system I am in, and ask if I want to join them for some pirating fun. I say yes of course, and off I go to my old home base in Hek to fit out a shiny new Thorax. Cordt jumps into his Thorax and Morbo into his Rupture, and were off to Otou.
After spending a good hour or two, literally cleaning out Otou... we decide to move on to Rorsins. Apparently Cordt and Morbo's corporation is at war with some folks who like that system... so I oblige and head on out with them.
At this point it's getting late, and me, I'd like to go sleepy... but I continue, hoping for one more "rush" before bed. We catch a few small fish in Rorsins, and all the big fish decide to camp it up in their safe little station... I have no idea what corp these folks were with, but they seemed like respectable peeps... so I figured they may put together a little squad and come out to meet us.
But no, they did not do so. At this point, they start smack talking in Local, in French. Which is kinda funny, being that I am American, and we know how Frenchies and Americans have been getting along lately :) (Personally, I have nothing against the French.) But any how, it's getting late, and they won't come out to play. Morbo had the bright idea of "blowing the station to bits", but we decided against that, considering we didn't have the ultra new "super duper station killer class ship". So I get the bright idea that we should gank one of their guys at the gate or station... we had 13 drones between us and three ships, and figured, what the heck? Maybe we could get out without succumbing to the sentries?!
We check our scanners and find one of our French friends... it looks like they may be putting together a force, to come and attack us... he is waiting by the gate... but we had different plans.
The scene: A Brutix, chilling about 45 KM from the gate... and talking shit in French...
Cordt warps us all in to the gate, about 50 KM from the Brutix.

20KM We launch our drones...
10KM We all lock target...
5KM Now it this point, I am thinking, "I need to align to a planet so I can warp out once the sentries start tearing at me"
But all of a sudden something really funny happens... maybe it was all of the little flashing red lights, or maybe it was the site of all of our drones bearing down on him, whatever it was, we will never know. He opened fire on us. Which was quite an unexpected scenario. Cordt screams out "He fired at me!!! KILL HIM!!!" At this point I am a bit confused as that was not part of the plan, the sentries were shooting at our target, and happily I start firing. A flash of light, and the Brutix was destroyed.

It seems a habit for Brutix pilots to start shooting people while at gates, not the first time I've heard of it!
It's always a shame when people talk big but hide away until they can get a blob together @:/
Why would the sentry guns shoot at him if he shot at you when you were flashing red?
Let me clarify, none of us had a sec rating lower than -1. What I meant to convey was what our ships would have looked like to him when we all locked target... you know, the little square around the ship starts blinking red... which is why the sentries took him out... our sec status wasn't low enough.
Ahh, now I understand.
I got a guy to do that last week. I am not sure what he was doing, but he was in a Rupture sitting about 65km from the gate (what are sentry gun ranges now?). He was -3.2, so I couldn't shoot him without sentry gun retribution on my ship.
Someone in my corp suggested I uncloak next to him and see if he would shoot me out of reaction to my presence. Sure enough, I uncloaked and target locked him and he shot me. I scrammed him and held him in place while the sentry guns erased him from the universe. Was pretty funny.
