To War Dec or Not To War Dec, That Is The Question

Tash and the surrounding areas have been quiet as of late. The macro/pharmer crowd runs the minute they spot me stealing ore. Their armed escorts don't even bother engaging anymore. One of them was in a Ferox outside a station tossing cans offering a 1 vs 1. I looted his can 5 times and he just kept shouting, "NO!". Go figure.

So I keep looking for some fun. I find it in the form of a younger pilot in a Megathron. I figure let's see how foolish this guy is. Pretty foolish I am guessing since he's ratting in .8 sec space in a high end BS. I go and loot his rat cans. He MWD's up to me, locks on and starts firing.

Since I am in my ore ganking ship and not my fighting ship, I zoom on out to slip into something more appropriate. I come back in my Dominix and chase him around a bit. He eludes me and leaves the system. So I convo him.

I tell him to prepare for war. He asks why. I say, "because I want to be able to kill you and not have to deal with a timer running out on me." He offers a 1 vs 1 in his home system with a few of his other corpmates on. Of course I've yet to see a non-pirate person honor their 1 vs 1, so I say no thank you, I will just declare war. He says ok, instead he will come back to me and do a 1 vs 1. Sounds fine to me. I sit and wait a bit and I also jettison a can. I give strict instructions to my corpmates to not warp to me or to the planet I planned to fight at. All was set as I awaited the Megathron pilot's arrival. Sure enough there he is. He asks the rules. I say "1 vs 1, loot my can, we fight until the death" he is ok with it but asks if he can wait a moment to let his cap recharge after the long warp. I say of course, take your time, once you loot the can, that means you are ready and we can duke it out from there. He loots my can and we go at it. He is doing horrible damage as I suspected he has a horrendous setup. I think I got hit by 2 or 3 missles or something. Literally, by the end of the very short fight he was into structure and I was at 97% shields or something. He asks me not to kill him. I am a big fan of kill mail collecting, but I figure he must have a bit of extra cash seeing as he can fly a Megathron so early in the game. I ask for 25 million. He accepts and pays quickly. I, of course, honor the ransom request and warp out leaving him to his own devices. I was going to war dec him but I am torn. One half of me feels guilty because he was a good sport unlike most of the people I meet in game. So I give him props for actually coming back to fight and having some fun. He even half-expected to lose, but he wanted to test out his ship. The other half of me says, if he can afford those ships, and can afford to just waste 25 million on a single ship ransom, what if this is a rich corp? If we war dec them and get them to surrender, maybe I can squeeze 250 million out of them. Hmmmm.....decisions, decisions........I do like easy money.................

Be a good sport and don't war-dec, you could possibly get some valuable allies isntead of just another war-dec ;)

That is something to be torn over... If I were to give a RP response id say war dec and show no mercy till they impress you with a significant isk amount.

But OOC id say either leave em be, OR without literally hunting them, try to get a few more honourable fights out of them (other members too) to finalize your opinion on whether they are worth showing mercy too or worth milking.

You never know, they may end up deserving it, or end up proving themselves and you could make some friends. Maybe people who will help with Agent locating for the price of not being targetted ;-)
