This is my first post on eve-pirate out of many I hope. I know some of you don't like RHN, but I fail to understand why. They are a nice bunch of people that I enjoy flying with. Anyways I hope you won't flame me but enjoy the read I'm about to give you :D This is a short story about a more than average day in Genesis.
This afternoon my most loyal wingman and I, decided not to hug gates, but roam Genesis instead. Our trip started pretty bad, as I had been making a run through hisecure space to Ziasad, carebear heaven, surrounded by hisecurity space. On our way back to the real low sec Genesis I got pwnd by Amarr Navy. Bye Bye Crusader ;(
Cleared for publication by: Ander, rest of story moved to extended body.
What I had left in my hangar was a few battleships and a Malediction. I grabbed the 2nd interceptor and made an order of 4 new Crusaders and mods. My wingman, Delphyne Jend and I headed for Gonditsa. We were flying one Ishkur and one Malediction.
In Gonditsa, we quickly noticed a Caracal in the belts. 2 secounds later we were in warp to 1 of the 2 belts where he might be ratting at. Naturally, he wasn't in the first belt, and as we warped into the secound he warped to a station. Suckage. We consult our most faithful map once again and find 3 ships destroyed in Zayi, in the nearby region Aridia. Old intelligence suggested that we had a sniper in an Apoc on the gate to Shirshocin. Eager to find out, we set destination and proceed to Aridia. Once in system, we find there actually is a sniper on Shirshocin gate. In lack of a covert, I put trust in my faithful MWD and insta on gate. Of course he's 180 off. I cant really approach either as I don't wanna lose my last interceptor at the moment. I'm slowly making it, but the guy warps out once I cross 100. (Note to self, find a sidekick in a cov op and pay Aridia another visit)
In lack of targets and nothing to do we see 4 people back in Genesis in Itrin. We set a new destination and head back. Once in Itrin there is a Megathron and a Punisher on scans. While any Megathron should pwn two frigs with a single web and a single nos, I wanted it. Badly. Off we go and land about 4000m off him. Nice start. We proceed to shoot and he launches drones. Small and Medium ones. Identifying these as a huge threat to my Interceptor we decided to shoot them first. Halfway into my armor the Megathron runs out of drones.
This is where the weird pard starts. The Megathron had torpedoes. A good sign of a bad setup. Obviously, this guy doesn't know what he's doing. (Why else would he be ratting in lowsec in a bs anyway). We quickly considered the chances for good loot, and came to the conclusion that ransomming him for 40 million would be a better option. After about 1 minute into the fight his shields went down and I opened local to convo the pilot. To my dismay he had logged already, hence we show no mercy. After a while his ship goes down and as expected, the loot sucks.
We decide to wait our flag out here and hope he logs back his pod so we can send him back to highsec where he belong. To our dismay, he knew how to warp his pod out fast. Then he starts whining in local about no ransom beeing given. I explain him that we were supposed to give him a reasonable ransom, but he logged off before we got him into armor, and hence had to die. I then proceed to explain him that logging off in combat does no good once you're flagged. "Well," he said, "I don't mind logging when the fight isn't fair." "Kinda hard to fight back when beeing warp scrambled and webbed." Naturally, at this point we were laughing our asses off on vent, but the guy didn't stop there. "How many jammers did you have on me, I only had 3 warp core stabilizers on."
Beeing reasonably happy I brought my Malediction instead of the dual beam Crusader, I logged once my flag went up. Later that evening my Malediction got a mining barge while his friend in a dominix was 30km off in the same belt. Unfortunately the Dominix warped off before my backup arrived, and there's no way I can get a Drone carrier on my own :( Hours later I lost the Malediction to Tharsis Security group ^^ But me mourns none. It did a good job, and I prefer Crusaders.

Good job on the logger.
On a recent trip through our favourite hunting grounds we had one Armageddon (or an Apoc, can't remember) and two Ravens log out on us in combat. We were with a few interceptors and not able to kill them before they disappeared :-(
CCP really has to spend some time trying to tackle this problem since it seems to be getting worse.
I understand it is hard to discern between internet problems and someone yanking his network cable but I assume most people just ALT-F4 and CTRL-Q, which can be detected.
Also, they could try to detect situations instead of mechanical problems. If someone loads fine into a new system and then suddenly has "connection problems" at a gate with 5 hostiles on it and logs out / "disconnects" then he should not emergency warp and disappear after two minutes*.
And let them log out in an NPC-only situation. Who cares.
At the moment the current way connection problems / logging out is handled penalizes far too many people than the few with real connection problems who would be helped by it.
*) I would be fine with extending the timer to five minutes and nothing else.
Well the game is borked atm(lag, timeouts when jumping etc) so I don't mind the logging timer at 1 min when you ain't flagged.
15 minutes is plenty enough time to find loggers tbh :) Astrometrics 5+Cov Op = Win !
Just remember to get em flagged :P
Kinda hard to flag them when they log out while still cloaked from the jump-in :-)
But, yeah, on non-spur-of-the-moment gangs we're definitely bringing a probe-launcher.
Ah, I have seen you guys in and around Itrin. I suppose its your patch so will pass through and hunt elsewhere.
