Several weeks ago, the local enemy alliance put a so-called "deathstar" POS in our system. We have harassed them for long enough and they were going to show us they meant business. They would teach us who was the boss. If my memory serves me correctly, the POS contained 4 large turret batteries, 4 medium, 4 small, a warp scrambling battery, a ship maintenance array and corp hanger array. Anything smaller then a dreadnaught would be fried instantly. This tower was Serious Business.
Unfortunately, there was no way the one large tower was going to take sovereignty away from the local NPC pirate faction that lay claim to the region.

Note: Uhm... What alliance? ;)
For weeks durng our idle time we wondered how to get rid of it. We didn't want to remove it because it presented a threat- the POS had literally no effect on us. If anything letting it continue to exist hurt the alliance because they were spending millions fueling it with a carrier every week, and they weren't even mining with it. We just wanted to remove it on principle. It was something that could be destroyed, therefore it must be destroyed.
Anyways weeks passed, a few of us performed various experiments on the large tower, leading to enemy alliance directors being spammed with vigil and ibis killmails. We left it alone for a while. Nothing happened, until some corpmates reported that the enemy was starting to unanchor the guns. This perked our attention, as the person unanchoring them was in a carrier and ejected from the ship a few times. Unfortunately, for the rest of the day nothing else major happened.
The next day, they continued unanchoring POS modules. One after the other, but the tower was kept online so there was nothing we could do about it. We watched, ready for action but unable to do anything at the moment.
Our covert ops pilot watching the action relayed the information. "all guns unanchored", "tower is offline", "he's removing fuel from it now", and eventually, "he's unanchoring the tower"
Corp chat flooded with X's and the time of unanchoring was recorded. Two hours we would have to wait, and we could possibly steal the large tower. We were told by our commander- "do not undock, do not hang around in space, do not enter system if you can avoid it. we don't want to scare them.". We believed the carrier was being used to jump the POS modules back and forth, and we had to be careful of fighters. We didn't have enough firepower online to kill the carrier, but we did have enough online to hold the carrier off long enough for a hauler to scoop the tower. We fit sniping battleships, interceptors, ecm, dampeners. I fitted a bestower with just enough cargo space to carry a tower, a named afterburner, and dampeners just incase things got rotten.
We waited out the two hours. some of us logged off to do other things, and our home system became very, very quiet. A few minutes before the scheduled time, we reassembled and undocked. We warped to the POS. One of our interdictor pilots dropped a bubble on grid towards the NPC station the enemy carrier was docked in, in the hopes that we could keep the carrier at range, dampened, and totally inneffective. I warped to the moon as well, and flew towards the tower as quickly as my bestower could fly. 15km... 14, 13, 12... Unfortunately we saw no carrier appear, only a shuttle which got away. Gangmates stood by anyways, ready to fend off anything that would try attacking me. I scooped the tower, and selected my instadock bookmark. The theft operation was successful.
