Various people have been saying on the EVE-O forums that piracy is dead. RIP, and all that.
Why? Warp to 0.
Now, I'm not the biggest and baddest pirate, but even I can see that these comments are a load of bollocks. Take the recent (and still going?) Amamake camp by Sniggerdly. We're killing all sorts of stuff. We've even hit shuttles. How? People are still using autopilot, or not scouting. Sure, we got run off the gate, but these things happen. Human stupidity will never change.
But if we ignore gate-camps, piracy is alive and swinging baby, and she's not taking prisoners. A group of my like minded (and blood thirsty) peers ganged up, and scanned out a Tempest running missions. Pop went the Tempest. The new scan probe system is great, and something I really need to get into. There are just so many cool things that have come in with Revelations, I'm going to be like a kid in a candy store for months to come. I can feel the siren call drawing me back in. I haven't felt so eager to play EVE since I joined SniggWaffe.
Now everyone, do yourself a favour. Get out there, and play with the new stuff. The ship builders will thank you.
BTW: that Hyperion is dead sexy ;)

Piracy is dead (What?)

Not too mention the warp core stab changes are awesome for belt piracy. No more targets getting away because they have 2 or even 4 stabs. :D
i have a carebear friend who runs lvl4 missions. twice now, during the last stage of vengeance, she has had a cov ops ship decloak in front of her just after she's killed the boss (rachen). she's had to blow the loot can to stop the cov ops from getting to it first.
the new scan probes are just too powerful. we will either see a sea change in the way people run missions (certainly, high-level mission runners will no longer accept missions in low sec), or else i think we'll see a ccp nerf of probes or a change of missions to 100% deadspace-based.
enjoy the times of flux while they last, my friends, for i sense that an equilibrium between pirates and prey has not yet been reached with revelations :)
Piracy is far from dead. People will just adjust with new tactics. Instead of catching people as they warp to gates it will now be a case of catching them as they warp from gates (using 2 tackling frigs with a mix of sensor boosters, remote sensor boosters & signal amps can pin stuff down before it aligns to warp).
Plus belt piracy will just continue as usual.
Vive l'anarchie!
I think if anything warp to 0 is the best thing that can happen to piracy because people will come think of lowsec as 'safe' because they can now insta to gates. 80% of the time this means you are probably safe but stupidity, mistakes and people on jump in will always dish out a fair number of losses and with a possible influx of people this can only rise.
I think the only real people suffering are stabed up gate snipers :)
People whine no matter what.
Now it's just a bit more difficult for pirates to totally maul people. I think they're not going to make it all carebear because the whole selling point of eve is how cutthroat it is.
Some people can't take it? Fuck 'em.
Tiller, a guy in what looked like a Raven, locked my Iteron III and fired a missile salvo while I was pulling into a station in Messoya, one jump down the pipe past Akora. I was running with a load of strontium clathrates. Something fishy about a buy order for clathrates being issued in a hellhole like Messoya.
Because of the Warp to 0, I was able to barely get into the station with maybe 1/2 of my structure left. I guess these guys are going to have to invest in lock speed and I don't know what else to be able to pull it off the way they used to.
Oh, and Tiller? As I recall he had a 150m bounty. He hangs around Akora/Messoya, sets up trap orders and sits and waits for traders like a spider in his web.
Surely some coin for one of you enterprising guys... you should be able to get some idea of his capabilities by figuring that a stripped Itty III was able to (just barely) survive a salvo from him.
Have fun. Contact me in game if you want POS fuel or caps or anything at a good price, but I'll only be delivering to .5 or above, thanks very much.
time to start filling that guy's orders then
piracy is dead :E long live piracy!
