First Week of Fun - A tale of Post-Kali Low-SP Piracy

I persisted and began to look for an opening when they where separated. I pinned them down to a planet with a few belts, and warped to the planet at 0 km. It took about 5 seconds before the Merlin was upon me, and we began to open up on one another. As his shield went down I anxiously watched the overview for the Rifter, and just as the Merlin popped, the Rifter arrived. Being in no shape to take on another ship, I left the wreck and warped to my safe to repair.

Having gotten my armor back I did a scan-sweep towards the planet and discovered the Rifter still there. Feeling lucky I warped in, only to find the frigate 100km from my position. However, I found the un-looted wreckage of his buddy, and I helped myself to what remained, and then made a getaway.

The night was late, and I went off to sleep. Upon waking up I felt that urge again - the urge to test myself against my brethren - and I quickly logged on. I made my way to the same system as last time, and started the hunt. I found two prospects, and decided to go after a Slasher, flown by a character in my own n00b-corp, the same age as me. After a few missed opportunities I managed to grab him in a belt, and the fight quickly went my way.

When he was down he typed in local “Pod me”, to which I replied “Nah”, as I didn’t want my sec-rating to plummet. “Plz”. What the hell, I figured. He wants it bad, this guy. “Hehe, ok.”

High on the rush of combat I continued to prowl the system and soon found another target. This one was two weeks older than me, and was flying a Rifter as well. It was obvious she was after me, and I had a feeling this fight might be tough. After having scanned her down to a belt containing NPCs I figured it was worth a shot. After all, perhaps she was hurt from the puny Angels roaming the belts. In I warped, and was soon NOSed to hell and back.

Gf’s where exchanged in local, and I made a pledge to have my revenge one day. With this, it was time to recuperate my loss and get another ship. I trained up Energy Emission Systems that very night, and put a NOS of my own on my ship.

Two days passed, and my n00b pirate was beginning to look quite ok skill-wise. I could now fit the ship the way I wanted, and I felt confident that I could take out any other frig, and possibly even a destroyer. Late Thursday night I ventured out into Eifer once again to prowl. I found the system infested with older and meaner pirates than myself, but determined to not let that scare me off. Among all the killers and thieves I found a lost looking n00b ratting away in a Slasher. It didn’t take long for me to pin him down, and he never dented my armor before he popped.

As he flew off in his pod he tried to goad me into fighting him 1-on-1. I said “Sure, I’ll wait for you here while you get a new ship”. Then he started spamming me with gang-invites, asking me to “plz warp to me” and “meet at gate”. As my aggression-timer was nowhere near finished, it didn’t take a genius to figure out that he wanted to lure me into a certain demise by sentry-gun. I politely declined his offer and he left the system.

A few hours later I went back to Eifer again. The only other character in the system was the very one I destroyed recently, and this time he was in a Rifter. I figured I’d give him his 1-vs-1 and warped into the belt he was in. This time he put up more of a fight, but couldn’t break my tank as my NOS drained him.

He quickly left the system uttering something in Polish that babelfish translated into “Now we will soon see” or something of the kind. Babelfish isn’t the most reliable of translators, but I figured that he meant that he’d kill me if he saw me again. At least, that’s what I hope he meant.

The night was over, and again it was time to sleep. At work the next day I couldn’t help but getting lost in my thoughts of what to do as I got home. As I was soon to find out, this would be my most destructive day yet.

I began by venturing to Eifer as I usually do. The system was almost empty, but I had seen a month old character in the system before, so I went back. It took about 5 minutes to find him in a level 1 complex in a Probe. I entered the cleaned complex and found the guy sitting on the next acceleration-gate 40km away from me. On went the afterburner, and I closed the distance without any reaction from my potential victim. My auto-cannons ripped away his shield and armor, and soon he was in his egg. The guy was obviously AFK in a .4 system. I decided a lesson was to be taught here, and dispatched his pod as well.

My thirst for blood was unquenchable, and I went back to Eifer looking for more victims. Among all the meaner pirates I found yet another young character in a Rifter, warping around like a mad-man to avoid the pack of howling hounds he had after him. Waiting in a belt I got him, and took his pod for good measure. He never even fired back, he was so shocked.

I was on a roll, and before my aggro-timer was even up I had found another victim. This one put up a better fight, but couldn’t withstand my NOS. I let his pod go as he was courteous in local, and fought to the best of his ability.

Before stopping for the night I needed one last kill. Again I didn’t even have a chance to wait out my aggro-timer. A 9-days old character in a Thrasher came into the system and started ratting. He was quite hard to pin down as he warped around quickly, and I barely missed him in one belt. Then I found him engaged in plundering other people’s loot and decided to punish him. I didn’t know if my frig would hold up against a destroyer, but I figured, there’s only one way to find out.

At first, it all seemed to go south, as his shield tank held up nicely, and I got stuck on a ‘roid. After modifying my orbit I managed to get my transversal up, and my own tank helped prolong the battle enough for me to eventually pop him. I cheered and looted his wreckage. His pod warped away too quickly for me to grab it.

5 minutes later I discovered a 1 million isk bounty on my head, and felt that my work was done.

Thus the first week of my pirating career came to an end, and with 8 ship-kills, 3 pod-kills and only one loss, I felt it had been a successful one.

Belt piracy after Kali has not died. Hope the next week will be as much fun.
