Tale of a Ballsy Noob

Druadan·

Today, I bring you a story of an event that happened about twenty minutes ago. As you may guess, I am a pirate. Not full-time, only when I get the blood-lust or find myself bored of killing Rogue Drones -_-

I like to hang around Gallente lowsec, waiting in safespots for targets, or moving through lowsec chains, and using the scanner to locate killable targets. This particular evening I was on my third beer of the night and had bought and fitted a Sacrilege, after playing with potential fittings in EFT. I'm not an Amarr pilot, I fly Gallente primarily, but I was intrigued by the Khanid Mk.2 changes and saw I could get nice high resistances.

Rest of story moved to extended body.

My setup: Highs: 5x Arbalest HAM, 1x 50W Neut Mids: Y-T MWD, Fleeting 20km scram, Fleeting web (90%), Medium Electrochemical Booster [Cap Booster 800] Lows: MAR II, T2 Thermic Hardener, 2x EANM II, DC II EM/EX/KN/TH: 83.5/91.9/84.9/86.8 I'd been in system about twenty minutes, watching these three new players in frigates go about their business, when I spotted a Brutix and a Caracal on scanner. Guessing one of them had to be ratting, I made my way to the first belt in the list. Five seconds after I get into the belt, a Stabber warps in. Eh?, I wonder, I didn't see this on scanner..., but since it looks so mightily inviting, I prepare to lock him down and chew him up. Along with the stabber, slightly behind him, appears the Caracal! Aha!, I think to myself, this should surely be a good night for Druadan. They're not going to put my Sacrilege through anything it can't handle, but it's nice to have targets so quickly for once. Once I open fire on the Stabber, he makes his way swiftly out of the belt with half his shield remaining. Damn warpstabs! With the Stabber escaped, I turn to salvage at least one kill out of this encounter and lock down the Caracal. The Caracal is shooting the frickin' rats. He must not have noticed I was there, and I gleefully got him webbed, scrambled, and gave the order to my crew: open fire, all missile batteries. Swift volleys of missiles traced their way from my launchers to his ship, exploding against the shields of the Caracal. The guy must have either been terrified or oblivious, as he didn't fire back once as his shields were overcome and missiles began melting the comparatively delicate armour. It was over quickly, and I began picking my way through his loot. The usual T1 stuff. As I prepared to leave the belt and return to my safespot, the Stabber returned to the belt. Huh..., I said aloud, this one must want a fight. I gave the usual orders, and the dedicated crew of my jet black Sacrilege, the 'N-word Jim', locked him down, and activated the missile launchers and the energy neutraliser. He didn't run. He didn't curse me out in local. He fought until his ship exploded. It's not often you meet a noob so ballsy out in the black, and so I sent a message out over local...
[01:33:33] Druadan > nice try mate. you got some balls. [01:33:50] Baden Blackstar > well [01:33:55] Baden Blackstar > obviously, I am a noob [01:33:56] Baden Blackstar > :) [01:34:00] Baden Blackstar > actually, first encounter [01:34:04] Baden Blackstar > I did not know what to expect [01:34:08] Baden Blackstar > I came back for my partner [01:34:14] Baden Blackstar > didnt realize he was popped
So my 'mad props' (can I pull that off as Briton?) of the week go to Baden Blackstar, the ballsy noob who took on my Sacrilege to try and save his mate. Were it not for my policy of not recruiting my victims, I would have made him an offer there and then. Afterwards, I was thinking about why the Caracal was shooting the rats, and not me. So I took a trip down memory lane to when I was a brand new, fresh out of pod-pilot academy EVE player. To me, lowsec was scary as all hell. In lowsec, the stuff I had worked to buy would be destroyed by more experienced players. It's a topic that many a noob has started in EVE-O General, and many a veteran has shouted them down for. That didn't matter to me. To me, that was EVE. It was real. Where there was no order, chaos could freely ensue. One day I'd master lowsec, I was sure of it. But aspirations aside, had I been set upon by a practised pirate, I would have panicking my arse off. In fact, the second ship I lost, my Brutix coming back from a mission in Egghelende back before WarpToZero, I simply didn't fire back. I sat back in my chair, hands off the keyboard, and thought ''damnit''. I thought it was futile to fight back, considering how thoroughly my Thorax had been trounced in lowsec a month ago. So I can understand why this Caracal pilot didn't fire back. We were all there once. -Dru

I also didn't fight back when I lost a rupture a long time ago. Mind you that was to a HAC, so it was over that fast I was happy I got my pod out.

Anyway, good story.

My first encounter as a noob being attacked. A char named Darkish and his accomplice tried to frag me in lowsec using warp jammers and energy drains. I was taking on a serpentis ship at the time with a bounty of 75k isk in a catalyst. The 2 pirates arrived and attacked me promptly... so i retargetted Darkish and gave him the shock of the day; scout rails do HURT! he turned off the warp jammer and i was able to escape, shields gone, armor gone and VERY little structure left to brag about. I was exceedingly lucky that day.

my first lowsec enounter was about 2 months ago...i was flying a caracal and i was dying to see whats in lowsec... so i risked my ship and all the money invested and went there...the first ship i saw was a tech II rifter(forgot the ships name) and i was very excited ; i thought i could beat him... so i shot him first and he blew my shields in a few seconds and i couldnt run away from there because i would have been shot by sentry guns...so i warped from moon to moon and he found me and killed me :D

Very nice story. I remember my first solo encounter in low sec againt a war target.

I docked in a station to pickup up a fresh Drone Link Augmentor I. Upon arriving i note there was a war target docked in station. At the same time i noted a fellow alliance member in station with me. This brough me some comfort, mistake #1.

So the war target undocks while BSing with someone in local. The war target says he's kind of bored, no active war targets in system. So i think, "Maybe he didn't see me.." I wait. I figure i'm in a Tristan, so i should be able to align and warp before he targets me as a worst case sinerio.

So i wait to make sure he has plently of time to leave the undock point, and then i undock, mistake #2.

Immediately, i'm targeted. I initiate warp to run, but no good. He's a fast targeter and already has web and scram on me. Damn, i think to myself. So i bring my little ship around and light up my control panel and launch my drone.

Then it's in my sights. The thing that was designed to destroy me. A destroyer at 5km+ from me and with a web, this is not going well.

I managed to take his shields out before my hull gave out.

Never stood a chance, never even called for help from my alliance mate in station, mistake #3.

Well, lessions learned and that moment comfirmed it for me. This game is by far the funnest MMO i have ever played.

Ha, yeah my 1st PvP was really bad for my corp mate whom I was 'Protecting' in 0.1. We were out there trying to get some LowSec Ore IN a system where our Corp was about 10 strong at the time, plus prolly 5 Alliance too. We figured it would be safe from pirates (this was a Corp in Goonswarm afterall IN Goonswarm Territory).

So we set out, him in Retriever, me in Tier 2 Gallente Cruiser (figured if I lost it to PvP oh well). He had made 2 trips back to station to dump then was mining again when a Tier 3 Amarr Cruiser warped on top of him, Jammed-Scrammed and popped him b4 I could even respond then locked me.

So I dutifully locked him back after getting hit for prolly 15 seconds by then let loose the Drones (4 T1's at the time) and engaged. He had gotten my shields to 64% before i tore through his Armor and he had to jump out. Hooray I though to myself silently, I ran off the attacker. By this time my corp mate was back in his Cane and ready for revenge. Along comes an Interceptor, hit-n-run style. Does almost no damage to me, but my Hybrids scare him off, and my corp mate with Projectile couldn't even hit him, lol.

Finally help arrived from corp and alliance (a shock), to the tune of 3 BS's, 2 BC's and a HAC! By this time the Pirate noted in Local about the 'Gang' of ships in our belt and nobody jumped in after that. Was an eye opening experience to say the least.
