First taste of piracy

LordPAK·

Well, after about 3 years of heartily condemning piracy, I took a rather abrupt U-turn, and joined a pirate corp, since from all the stories here it actually seems like a lot of fun. Luckily, I had two encounters in my first day in this new corp...

I was running around Tash-Murkon Prime and adjacent systems, looking for targets whose ore I could steal, or whose wrecks I could loot, and they would hopefully engage. In Pimebeka, I found a mining barge who'd left some full wrecks around. Luckily in a Crusader interceptor, I'm slightly faster than the average mining barge, and got to it before he could, transferring the loot to my hold. Suddenly I get locked up by the barge, and a single light drone begins attacking me. Success! I pop the drone (T2 pulse lasers ftw!), and bring the barge down to half structure in about 15 seconds. I decide to ask for a ransom, since he is scrammed and defenceless;

[ 2008.01.24 10:17:58 ] PKlavins > 10mill or pop
[ 2008.01.24 10:18:14 ] C** K** > Newbie POP?
[ 2008.01.24 10:18:30 ] PKlavins > 10mill isk or pop, simple as that. yse or no
[ 2008.01.24 10:18:57 ] C** K** > 10 Mil
[ 2008.01.24 10:19:06 ] PKlavins > yes. transfer to me in 1 minute or pop
[ 2008.01.24 10:19:41 ] PKlavins > thank you

The beautiful blink of the wallet icon made me turn off my scram and warp off. I met the chap in another patrol through Pimebeka today; I didn't try to bait him this time but I hope he's learnt his lesson ^_^

After that I went to succesive systems, trying to repeat the feat. In the last belt of a system I found a noob-corpie mining in an Osprey. Promptly removing his ore from his can and transferring it to mine, a Cormorant appears in the belt as well, and proceeds to pop a belt rat. Hmm... should I risk getting aggro from both of these chaps?

Bah, I decide to give it a try and loot some stuff from the Cormorant's wreck. Immediately he aggroes me, and his rails reduce my shields to zero. Panicking slightly, I warp off to another belt, but I start regretting it immediately; the age of the Cormorant char is only a few months and now I'm sure I could have taken him on. Fortunately, he warps after me and engages straight away. Again my barely recharged shields are stripped away, while my scram and four T2 pulses keep him occupied. However, as soon as his guns hit my armour, the damage stops dead, while I slice through his armour and structure, leaving him a blinking egg in the belt. I would have ransomed, but it all happened so quickly, and I'm still not experienced in these situations. His wreck is predictably full of T1 stuff, except for a pretty nice 150mm prototype gun, which sells for a nice 600k back in Tash-Murkon Prime (Yea, 600k isn't much usually, but I'm poor :P)

Around this time, the Osprey from which I'd nicked the ore proceeds to chat in local...

[ 2008.01.24 17:06:51 ] B******* > Fuck this, ORE thief: PKlavius
[ 2008.01.24 17:07:46 ] L*************** > so shoot him
[ 2008.01.24 17:07:49 ] L*************** > or mine with an escor
[ 2008.01.24 17:08:18 ] B******* > yeah, his in an Interceptor, and Im in Osprey
[ 2008.01.24 17:08:37 ] L*************** > oh yeah you're only 10 days old
[ 2008.01.24 17:09:00 ] B******* > yes, sry for that
[ 2008.01.24 17:09:02 ] L*************** > Welcome to eve.. TRAPS like can flipping
[ 2008.01.24 17:09:11 ] L*************** > But then so do I

Correction, I'm not an ore 'thief'. That ore was sitting there in a can right in front of him, he could have taken it back. But he's a new player, so he was probably quite confused at this point. Secondly... yay! We are renowned around EVE as can flippers! That should lure others into a false sense of security...

So, that's my first foray into piracy. So far, profitable and fun, however finding targets who willingly engage is rather rare at any rate.

also i think you could have fleshed the story out a little with things like
EG. "i smiled in pleasure as the light from his ship exploding gave my ships hull a glorious looking paint job for a moment".

could add a little drama and style to the stories you post in the future

dunno but now that ive writen and read what ive just put it seem little off
