Unattended Assets

Being new to the whole 'Piracy' thing, myself and my corp have been frantically trying all sorts of methods to make ISK, the most effective so far being our 'Protection packages'. Now, i know what you’re thinking, that sounds kinda like something the Mafia would do, and i would have to admit that the idea did come from there. To our surprise our first... Client... accepted the package very quickly earning us a nice 300mil every 3 months, for next to no effort. But this only leads up to what is perhaps my best steal to date. While scouting for our next potential... Client... (In this case we were targeting Research corps) I came across a corporation taking down their High sec PoS. Seeing a possible chance here, i bookmarked the tower while i sat cloaked in my Arazu 'Hidden Dreams' before i continued to scout. Returning an hour or so later, i found that all the modules had been removed, and only the offline tower remained, no un-anchoring timer on it or anything. I was somewhat disappointed at this as the corporation was obviously aware that an Offline Tower was safe in high sec so long as they had no wars on. This, i decided to remedy. I put a vote through to war dec the corporation that night, with a view to returning and ransoming the tower. All went to plan and the vote completed the following day, so before finalizing it, i decided to check that the tower was still there and could be ransomed. Warping back to 20km from the tower in Hidden Dreams, I was amazed to see it unanchored with only a giant secure container next to it. Seeing the change, and assuming that the other corp must have a hauler on the way already, I rushed back to the station and grabbed my Mammoth. I have never been so lucky when undocking! It was a normal day outside station, and that is to say -Busy-. There were a lot of ships just out of the docking ramp, including a war target of ours who was parked up at 15 from the undock point in a Tempest, a lot of reds and the rest of the normal neutral crowd. Hoping that the War target would be too busy fending off my corp mates, who where in frigates (attempting to provide cover for me) and that I wouldn’t bounce on anything outside the station, I started spamming warp. Thankfully the Tempest ignored me and, god knows why, was shooting at the interceptor pilot who was happily flying around him in circles. Watching my ships speed, and waiting for the 'Warping' bar to reach 3/4, i noticed another mammoth pilot undock behind me, and begin to align to the same point. All i can say is "Spaceship Command V FTW!" The mammoth belonged to the same corp as the tower, and as you can guess, was en-route to collect it. I entered warp a couple of seconds before the other mammoth did (by my corp mates account) and by this point, I was certain that I could get the tower before them. To my horror, I dropped out of warp 20 km from the tower and i was sure i had pressed 'Warp to 0m'. Unfortunately, the default was set to 20km because of my scouting the night before, so hoping all was not lost I turned on my Haulers MWD, and headed toward the tower. The second mammoth then appeared on my overview and it took me a couple of seconds to work out why my overview had him labelled at '90km' from me. Turns out that he warped to the moon at 0m and not the tower! I was still in with a chance! Suffice to say, All that is now left at that moon is a GSC saying 'Thanks for the tower, next time don’t leave your assets unattended' and my Station hanger now contains a very shiny Caldari Control Tower. Not a big one. gives a better boost than an afterburner.. just, although with the latest expansion i wouldnt bother with one now.
